I hope your Fall & Winter season is going well. I’ve been traveling a bit to see family, making way too much pumpkin butter, and eating delicate yet delicious Italian desserts.
Being around family, especially the women in my life, I always notice and hear similar phrases:
”Oh I can’t eat that [while staring at the dessert table]”
“You know I’ll just have a tiny baby slice”
“I’m watching my weight”
“I’ll start my diet tomorrow”
“Just looking at the food makes my hips grow!”
And, I get it. I used to do this too until I became consciously aware that I was participating in something that was doing more harm than good.
My aunt is diabetic, but it didn’t stop her from reaching for her third serving of Panettone, and her daughter giving her “the eyes” like, “you should not be eating that, you should be ashamed”.
While others just stared at the desserts, taking little slices, and going around the corner to eat it. It feels better to hide sometimes.
With all this observing, I barely had a slice of pumpkin pie! I was fascinated!
Many members asked me how I manage to “stay so small” during the holidays and I really don’t have a secret, I just maintain my same way of eating. Simply because there’s more food, doesn’t mean I eat more.
Another thing I do is make a sample plate as my meal, with a little bit of all the things, and this almost always fills me up. I’ll then typically make a spiced tea and sip on that. It’s delicious, warming, festive, and healthy! Once dinner is done, I’ll choose my 1 dessert and enjoy a serving. That’s it!
We tend to make everything “more” because let’s be honest, the holidays can be a bit excessive on all fronts. And while you may eat foods you don’t typically eat, this is a once-a-year kind of thing so eat, enjoy, and move on. The holidays are not just about food.
All of this being said, if you’re feeling down or sluggish or ashamed of how your diet is going this season, I have a wonderful 2-week challenge for you. It’s got something everyone can enjoy, and probably a healthy take on some of your holiday classics.
This menu is healthy, festive, and done for you!
